Cryptic Crossword: August 2002

The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) and the Concise Oxford Dictionary (COD) are recommended works of reference.

Each of twenty-three clues contains a word superfluous to the clue's cryptic working. Initial letters of superfluous words spell out the title (consisting of four words) of an OUP publication, by 30 Across. Answers to the other eight clues are headwords in the publication in question.
