Concise Oxford Dictionary
The AskOxford site is being launched on 12 July 2001 in conjunction with the
revised edition of the Concise Oxford Dictionary.
AskOxford.com is an exciting new website from Oxford University Press designed
to help with language queries. The website contains a vast array of resources
including a jargon buster, language tips, competitions and crosswords, articles
and interviews about dictionary making and the English language. The site also
provides an opportunity to ask our experts at the Oxford Word and Language Service
about anything to do with the English language.
This week we have issued press releases about the revised edition of the Concise
Oxford Dictionary and this website. Read about:
- The new words entering the dictionary including Yah,
minger, hottie, duvet day, and chowhound.
- SMS abbreviations entering
the dictionary.
- Information in the dictionary appendices including collective nouns for
whales, ferrets, and cobblers.
- The launch of this website.
