  • noun 1 matter, material, articles, or activities of a specified or indeterminate kind. 2 basic characteristics; substance: Helen was made of sterner stuff. 3 (one’s stuff) informal one’s area of expertise. 4 Brit. dated woollen fabric, especially as distinct from silk, cotton, and linen. 5 Brit. informal, dated nonsense; rubbish.

  • verb 1 fill tightly with something. 2 force tightly or hastily into a receptacle or space. 3 fill out the skin of (a dead animal or bird) with material to restore the original shape and appearance. 4 (be stuffed up) have one’s nose blocked up with catarrh. 5 (stuff oneself) informal eat greedily. 6 Brit. informal defeat heavily in sport.
