  • noun 1 the property possessed by an object of producing different sensations on the eye as a result of the way it reflects or emits light. 2 one, or any mixture, of the constituents into which light can be separated in a spectrum or rainbow. 3 the use of all colours, not only black and white, in photography or television. 4 pigmentation of the skin as an indication of someone’s race. 5 redness of the complexion. 6 interest, excitement, and vitality. 7 (colours) chiefly Brit. an item or items of a particular colour worn for identification, especially in sport. 8 (colours) the flag of a regiment or ship.
